The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF0 tornado briefly touched down in Fentress County as strong thunderstorms moved across the Cumberland Plateau on Saturday.

According to a preliminary storm survey, the tornado touched down at approximately 6:32 p.m. near Heinss Road and traveled northeast for about 0.43 miles before lifting near Baseline Road. The tornado’s estimated peak wind speed was 70 mph.

Fortunately, officials reported tree damage only in Fentress County, with no structural damage noted in the survey. A second EF0 tornado was also confirmed in neighboring Cumberland County, where some structural damage was reported.

The National Weather Service classified both tornadoes as EF0, the lowest rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.
